PHIL1903 – Coursework Assignments 2006/07

Each assignment counts as 20% of the course total, making a total of 40%; the remaining 60% derives from the examination.

1. A report on your tutorial project due one week after the relevant tutorial session

Read the assigned text for the tutorial (these can be found from this page) and then (a) write a summary in your own words of the main arguments [10 marks], (b) make any comments on the cogency of these arguments as seem to you appropriate [10 marks]. Please note that you should keep close to the arguments offered in the text - don't try to cover whole chunks of philosophy.

Write no more than 4 pages.

2. due April 11

Read the passages in VAP 6B (pp. 403-426) and then (a) state briefly what the major arguments on the question of expertise in politics were and [10 marks] (b) make any comments of your own on their cogency [10 marks]. For those of you without VAP, the texts (usually in different translations) are here.
