$350 000 in Scholarship Funding

For Release Upon Receipt - Friday, April 4, 2014

TOP student performers at UWI Cave Hill campus will receive highly valued assistance when scores of them are awarded corporate, institutional or individual financial support for outstanding achievement.

Nearly 100 awardees will received about $350 000 in scholarship funding, book grants and other prize monies when the campus hosts its seventh annual student awards ceremony next Tuesday.

The ceremony held under the theme “Embracing Excellence: Promoting Success through Service” will also feature an inaugural prize to some of the latest PhD recipients who graduated with high commendation.

The local banking and wider financial sector is again a generous benefactor with FirstCaribbean International Bank again donating 15 one-year scholarships valued at US $2 500 each. These are tenable at any UWI campus for a degree in any discipline.

International firm De la Rue which manufactures the Barbados currency is offering a $35 000 biennial scholarship through the Central Bank of Barbados, to an enrollee in a postgraduate programme.

Principal of Cave Hill campus Sir Hilary Beckles has lauded the donors’ generosity saying that they “understand the critical role of the UWI in the building of our communities and nation.”

He noted: “These awards take on an even greater importance as they may now be the lifelines our students need to complete their university education.”
