The Faculty of Humanities & Education and the Cave Hill Theatre Workshop will be staging a play as one of the events of their week of activities. ‘Back Slap Alley’ is a three-act play written by Matthew Murrell and directed by Janelle Mitchell, graduates of the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination at the Cave Hill Campus.
In this the month designated as the month of LOVE, the play explores the link between jealousy, denial, trust and domestic abuse in both homosexual and heterosexual relationships. This adult play hits the stage on the eve of Valentine’s, Thursday February 13th at 9:30p.m in Lecture Theatre One of the Roy Marshall Teaching Complex.
Back Slap Alley unweaves the strained relationship of Mary and Jasper, owners of J & M Variety and their teenaged daughter Shakira. It rekindles a tainted friendship between Terri and Bull Dog while exploring the dynamics of love for the newly engaged young couple Ryan and Lisa. The unraveling of the lives of these neighbours in this urban cul-de-sac reveals deep rooted issues that create unforeseen misfortune.
The week of activities kicks off with an explosive praise fest dubbed Lifted on Monday 10th February followed by a Games/Karaoke Night on Tuesday 11th. There is healing for the soul as well as the body on Wednesday February 12th with a Wellness Day on the Guild Lawn. The week culminates with an epic union social on February 14th appropriately named ‘Scandal’.
Entrance to ‘Back Slap Alley’ is by $10 by ticket and $15 at the door.
